Tuesdays with the Conductor
Back in Black
A very warm welcome to the 10th edition of the Tuesdays with the Conductor newsletter.
Last week I spoke about Blackjack, and this week it’s time to talk Poker. It's May, and that means it’s almost time for the World Series of Poker, which is recognized as Poker’s most prestigious event. This year, the 55th edition of the World Series of Poker will be held from 28 May to 17 July at the Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada - the gambling capital of the world.

The World Series of Poker comprises several events, with the main event being a $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em tournament held from 3 July - 17 July. What makes the tournament so incredible is that anyone can enter provided they have the necessary money to buy in and are over 21 years old.
The current defending champion is Daniel Weinman, who walked away with $12,100,000.00 (R223,266,816.30) in prize money at the 2023 event. In what is described as a spectacular victory, Weinman beat out over 10,043 other players to get his hands on a share of live poker’s largest-ever prize pool – a staggering $93,399,900.
The 35-year-old Weinman also won himself a WSOP Main Event bracelet, which contains 500 grams of 10-carat yellow gold, as well as 2,352 various precious gemstones.

If you would like to take part in the tournament this year, Team Pokerbet from South Africa is heading to Las Vegas from 28 June until 10 July to participate in the 2024 World Series of Poker. The team comprises 5 Pokerbet players who have won packages via various promotions, along with Pokerbet pros and staff members. Two more Vegas packages are up for grabs via the upcoming Million Mayhem tournament on May 26. Each Vegas package is valued at R180,000 and includes the following:
Return flights to Las Vegas
Accommodation at the Paris Hotel & Casino
Entry into 5 x WSOP events
Dinners and entertainment with Team Pokerbet

On to the rugby we go, and we bounced back into the black this weekend with some good profits. It was a sluggish start with the Reds v Rebels points overs never looking like arriving, but then the Stormers brought the Friday back into profit with a solid win over the Dragons in Newport.
On Saturday, we managed to land a beautiful middle line in the Waratahs game. Some very heavy rain was predicted for the fixture, and we took the Under 55.5 total points line earlier in the week. At the time of kickoff, it was dry with no rain to be seen, and we took an Over 44.5 line. In the 2nd half, the rain arrived and managed to slow the scoring down just enough to land the points total on 50 points. Besides the game finishing as a water polo contest, the jersey clash made things even more interesting with both teams wearing an incredibly similar white jersey.
Playing in the puddles. Which team is which.
It wasn’t a particularly good Saturday afternoon with the Sharks -5.5 losing in the last few minutes and the Lions overs bet dead before it got going, but Sunday morning brought about a beautiful gift. At no point did the sportsbooks ever get a good handle on the odds for the U20 Rugby Championship, and that was even more evident during the last round. For the U20 South Africa v Argentina game, the books had made the Argies a 10-point underdog, which was madness considering South Africa’s performances thus far and some erratic selections. The books had also set the points line at 45.5 for New Zealand v Australia, which was far too low in perfect conditions. There is nothing better than finishing strong on a Sunday.
If you had invested R50,000 this past weekend in the Conductor Bets rugby service, you would now have a R18,000 profit burning a hole in your pocket this week.
Looking ahead to this weekend and we are getting to the business end of the Gallagher Premiership (last round) and the United Rugby Championship (2nd last round). First up though is Super Rugby and although we’ve already taken a strike on Western Force +2.5, if the handicap swings out enough I’ll be forced to look at a Waratahs plus as well. They showed good grit against the Brumbies and even with one of the most horrendous front row injury lists I’ve ever seen, I think they could keep it tight in Perth.
The other game that will see my attention is the Rebels v Chiefs. We’ve seen some high scores between these two teams in the past, and with Damian McKenzie more than likely back at 10 for the Chiefs and fine weather predicted for Melbourne, I’m expecting more of the same.
In the United Rugby Championship, there is a max bet I am lining up for our Patreon group, but trying to keep it under wraps until betting is available everywhere and hoping it doesn’t blow out until we can get our money down. The other two games I have been focusing on are Sharks v Cardiff and Ospreys v Dragons. John Plumtree has indicated that he will play a heavily rotated side against the Welsh side in Durban as he prepares his squad for the Challenge Cup final against Gloucester the weekend after. The Sharks have definitely been slightly better of late but showed why they haven’t had much success this year with a loss to Benetton at home after fielding a strong team. Now the Sharks will take on Cardiff with a largely second-string side, and I do not rate their 2nd stringers at all. The quality seems to drop drastically from the 1st team. After losing their last 10 games in a row, I am expecting the Cardiff Blues to come out fighting and cover the spread.
In Swansea, I also like Ospreys to cover the -15.5 v the Dragons. Ospreys did suffer a heavy defeat to Leinster last week, but I am expecting them to bounce back with a big win. They have shown at stages this year how good they can be with wins over the Lions and the Stormers.
In the Gallagher Premiership, there are some crucial games this weekend as Northampton Saints and Saracens look to secure a home semifinal. If Bath manage one point against Northampton, their spot in the Top 4 is assured. If Bath are able to do enough, the last spot will come down to a fight between Sale, Harlequins, Bristol, and Exeter. My focus will be on Harlequins v Bristol, and if the weather is good in London (which is not the forecast at the moment), I think we could see a lot of points in this game. I have seen some 58.5 floating around, and that’s where my money will be headed, but it will be a late strike in case there is rain around.
