Tuesdays with the Conductor
Stuck in neutral
A very warm welcome to the 9th edition of the Tuesdays with the Conductor newsletter.
Before we get on to the betting results recap and some fancies for this coming weekend, there has been something that has really attracted my attention of late. Many will know of my deep love for sports betting but I must admit I’ve never been one for hours in a casino as I’ve just never dedicated enough time to be really good at a specific card game and sitting on a seat at a slot machine is not my idea of fun. Recently I have started playing Blackjack on my mobile and after a few wins I have started to get more into it and begun dedicating time to learn the game and some basic strategy. The other thing has that has really pushed my interest in the game has been following Tim Myers aka Tim Naki on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/tim.naki/).
Born in Taranaki, New Zealand, Tim has become on a viral sensation on social media platforms with his followers on Instagram growing from a few thousand to over 1.2 million. What has led him to become so popular is that he bets 10 cents every day for every follower he has on Instagram on a single hand of blackjack. As he now has over a million followers he is placing 6 figure bets on one hand of blackjack.
Tim started the challenge in February this year with a $1500 bet and managed to accomplish his target of over $1,000,000 dollars in profit on Day 83 which is an incredible feat. His unfiltered genuine reactions to his wins and losses are what makes his videos amazing. Recapping the Patreon service and my personal betting, it was not a particularly good weekend of sports betting on either the rugby or the football service. We broke even on the rugby, but unfortunately, we had a loss on the football. There were some really tough results in the football, especially in the Hoffenheim v Leipzig game where a 90th-minute goal saw us lose a 4-unit bet. It just felt like a weekend that didn’t quite get going.
On the rugby service, it was a weekend where I should have committed to my strong early fancies and left the rest to run. Instead, I was trying to navigate some of the very high handicaps and points lines in Super Rugby, and by the time my fancies arrived, I did not follow through as I should have.
We had a big early strike on Moana Pasifika +6.5 off the back of some poor Highlanders results and the fact that Moana would be playing their first game in Tonga and as such would enjoy a large chunk of support. I woke up at 4:00am with the taste of Tafel Lager still in mouth ready to do battle and with the sound of the kettle boiling in the kitchen I switched on the TV to see that it was absolutely pouring with rain and the field was covered in ankle deep puddles. Sensing this could be an incredible opportunity for an unders play I emptied the account on Under 50.5 total points. The early morning tea started to taste like absolute piss when there were 36 points scored in the first half. I was staring down a massive loss as Moana weren’t looking too great either. Moana unfortunately couldn’t cover the handicap but thankfully there were only 9 points scored in the 2nd half to rescue the unders.
Hakas in the rain!
On Saturday afternoon, we showed some profit thanks to the Sharks' incredible comeback and Siya Masuku being absolutely clutch off the kicking tee (8/8). I had lined up a Leinster minus or overs play the entire week as I felt Northampton may not be at the races in Dublin and was hoping for a ruthless Leinster side in front of their home crowd. I ended up taking the Over 33.5 team total points for Leinster, and like a cold beer on a warm day the bet just never stood a chance.
However, it was a satisfying end to the weekend being able to watch some gorgeous rugby played between Toulouse and Harlequins, with the Over 62.5 arriving to pull the weekend square.
Looking forward to this weekend, and I’ll be looking to right the wrongs and come out swinging. In the United Rugby Championship, the Stormers have traveled with their strongest possible side to extract maximum points from their two games in Wales and Ireland. The Stormers -12.5 will more than likely catch my attention against the Dragons in Newport on Friday. On Saturday, it will be a tough task to avoid a possible trap at Loftus for Bulls vs. Glasgow and just focus on the Lions vs. Cardiff game. We’ve already taken a strike on a Lions minus in the Patreon group, but I won't be able to shy away from a points bet. After losing 9 games in a row, Cardiff won't be able to make the Top 8 of the competition and I think they could use the SA tour as an opportunity to blood some youngsters and play a bit more freely as there isn’t much on the line. The Lions have said this week that they haven’t given up on qualifying and will definitely be aiming for maximum points.
In Super Rugby, there is one game that immediately catches my eye, and that is Reds vs. Rebels. This has been a high-scoring fixture over the past few games, and with the Reds playing some incredible rugby, I really fancy once again that overs line. I've seen some at 58.5 at Play, which is very juicy.
There are two rounds left in the Gallagher Premiership, and both Exeter and Harlequins will still be hoping to make the Top 4. A trip to Sandy Park in Devon is never an easy one, and I expect it to be too tough for Harlequins. The Chiefs will be fresh after the weekend, and Quins' exertions against Toulouse might have taken too much out of them. Looking at Exeter to walk away with the spoils here, and 8/10 for a win looks too tempting to pass on available at World Sports Betting.
