Tuesdays with the Conductor

Sleepless in Singapore

A very warm welcome to the 8th Edition of the newsletter.

I’m incredibly happy to announce that it was another very successful weekend for the Conductor Bets Patreon service for the rugby and football betting. While we haven’t yet hit the return on investment enjoyed by a Columbian drug cartel, we are delivering consistent profits for our subscribers. When I googled “return on investment for drug cartel” I also found out I’m in the wrong business. Life expectancy is just a slight issue.

In the United Rugby Championship, the bet on the overs in the Blue Bulls game couldn’t have arrived more easily. It was one of my preferred bets highlighted in the newsletter last week, and with a total of 85 points in the game, you could have chosen Blue Bulls overs and/or the total overs, and you would have had a lot money burning a hole in your pocket this week. Loftus loves to deliver those points bets.

In Super Rugby, we had bets on Brumbies +8.5 and Reds +9.5. I really should have had the balls to also have a bet on the Brumbies to win. Their record in Canberra against the Hurricanes is very strong, and I had a feeling that the first slip-up for the previously perfect Hurricanes team was imminent. After the Brumbies bet paid off, I avoided the Highlanders vs. Western Force game like the plague. It was truly a dance of the desperates kind of game, with some awful rugby on display. Next, we headed to Brisbane to nervously watch our Reds bet. It was definitely tense at halftime with the Reds trailing 13-6, but then the 20-year-old debutant Reds winger, Tim Ryan (affectionately known as the Junkyard Dog), stepped up. Three tries in the second half from this electric youngster ensured a fantastic end to Saturday morning's betting. Looking forward to the weekend, and we’re in for an early treat with the start of the first-ever U20 Rugby Championship on Thursday, May 2, which takes place in Bokarina on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. The championship will see the up-and-coming stars of Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa rugby do battle. With the U20 World Rugby Championship due to take place in South Africa at the end of June, these will be vital preparation games for these teams. The U20 Northern Hemisphere teams have looked far more polished thanks to their participation in the U20 Six Nations.

The tournament will comprise a round-robin format where all teams will play each other once. The top team after the three-round, six-match tournament will be declared the TRC U20 champion. The sportsbooks have priced up the games with New Zealand being -7 against South Africa and Australia -10 vs. Argentina on the handicap. I don't think I'll be getting too involved from a betting perspective on day 1 as there are a lot of new players in these teams.

In Super Rugby, we’ve already had a good strike on the Moana Pasifika plus handicap in the Patreon group, with the line shifting from +6.5 to -1.5. With the fixture being the first-ever Super Rugby Pacific game to be hosted in the Kingdom of Tonga, I am expecting some big support for the Pasifika team. I am personally incredibly excited that the game is being taken more often to Fiji, Samoa and Tonga considering their massive contribution to the game of rugby. The other game I’ll be looking at is the Chiefs vs. Western Force. The weather looks good in Hamilton, and I’m expecting the Chiefs to run rampant. -23.5 is a high line, but what also motivates me to take a Chiefs minus is their defense. If they are in the mood, they scramble incredibly well on cover, which will help immeasurably with covering the spread. Click on the banner below to open an account and get in on the action.

In the Challenge Cup and Champions Cup, the two games I’ll be focused on are Sharks vs. Clermont at the Twickenham Stoop, and Toulouse vs. Harlequins in Toulouse. I am expecting good points in both games even though they are semi-finals. With a lunchtime kickoff in London on Saturday and good weather forecasted, the overs will be very tempting considering Clermont’s positive approach. The weather similarly looks good in Toulouse, and that game could be utter chaos considering the X-factor players that will be on the field.

The other big event happening this weekend is the Singapore 7’s rugby. The good news for Blitzboks fans is that two very experienced players are back in the form of Dylan Sage and Siviwe Soyizwapi. The Blitzboks are currently sitting in 7th place and will want a strong tournament to climb up the ladder. South Africa have won the tournament twice before, with the last victory being in 2019, and will have to quickly find some better form if they hope to repeat that. The temperatures are also expected to be 30 degrees Celsius or higher, and even with the air conditioning features in the Singapore stadium, I am expecting all the players to feel the strain in the heat and humidity.

The bad news, however, for bettors like myself is the fact that the games start at 5am South African time, so I'm not expecting too much sleep this weekend.

The bets will be coming thick and fast this weekend. Click below to subscribe to the rugby and football service and not miss out on any of the action - https://www.patreon.com/user?u=83508629

The conductorbets.com site is live and I will be adding other bets on the site throughout the weekend! I would also like to thank everyone for their continued support so far as we grow this community. Also please feel free to leave comments below the article if there is anything else you would like me to mention in the next newsletter, or a particular upcoming fixture you would like my thoughts on.

Cheers and have a great punting week!
