Day of the (Under)Dog

A very warm welcome to the 3rd Edition of the newsletter.

It is always enjoyable to put anything on paper after a successful betting weekend, but equally enjoyable was witnessing the goings-on in the top leagues. It was a fightback for the basement boys as both the Sharks and Force managed to climb out of last place in the URC and Super Rugby competitions respectively. The Ballers on a Budget Lions showed why they are one of the best traveling teams (anywhere is more enjoyable than Ellis Park), absolutely smashing the 9-point starting handicap against them in Galway. Even the Llanelli Scarlets managed a win as a 3-point underdog against Benetton after losing their previous 8 games and not having managed a win yet this year.

The big question is when will the Crusaders manage a win? Bookies are saying it's probably not likely against the Chiefs in Christchurch. It's at times like these that you wish you had the genius/insanity to have requested a bet at the bookies for the Crusaders to have lost their first 5 games. Any ticket for the Crusaders to win Super Rugby would now not be worth a Penney on the Dollar.

We ended off Sunday night with the rugby equivalent of a Macallan 15 Year Old whisky as we were treated to some typically beautiful French rugby at the Stade Chaban-Delmas between Bordeaux Begles and Toulouse, with the game finishing 31-28 and Antoine Dupont just doing more Antoine Du Pont things. There were some big Overs bets on the Patreon group community chat which covered easily.

There won't be much room to take a breath this weekend as we look forward to another 26 games in Super Rugby, Gallagher Premiership, Top 14 and the United Rugby Championship. This is not even taking into account ProD2, Major League Rugby, and Women’s 6 Nations.

Nothing stands out in terms of spectacle quite like Leinster versus Bulls on Friday night. Conditions look like they should be good at the RDS Arena, and I expect Leinster to play at a breakneck pace. They will have the last loss in Dublin against the Bulls firmly in the back of their minds. It should be a magnificent competition of finely tuned European machines against the Toyota Land Cruisers out of Pretoria. I’m leaning towards that -12.5 handicap.

Looking elsewhere, and I’ll probably be reverting back to opposing the Sharks after backing them last week. Was hoping for a bigger Edinburgh gift but such is life.

Holding thumbs for good weather in Sydney for Waratahs v Rebels and currently stalking Finn Russell’s Instagram to see if he’ll be playing against Harlequins in London, where I expect an almighty fightback at The Stoop after Quins got beaten like a red-headed stepchild by Saracens last Saturday.

As a thank you for all the continued support of the newsletter and the Patreon Group, I’ve put together a unit betting guide. This guide will help you manage your unit sizes effectively, leading to more consistent betting results. https://conductorbets.gumroad.com/l/fvyub

Cheers and have a great punting week!
